What is Motion & Motion?

MOTION & MOVEMENT

Throughout this project I aimed to produce images that show movement whether it be abstract or of a person doing something that showed movement. As I took these photos I aimed to show fluidity in movement and convey the idea that life is random.

MOVEMENT IN FIRE

Photo shoot 1

For this shoot I aimed to take a series of photos of fire in a more natural environment, the fire pit at my workplace. The reason behind it being in a more natural  environment is that it showed the true wildness of fire and that though we may harness it we may never truly tame it.

MOVEMENT IN WATER

Photo Shoot 2

For this I planned to take a series of photos from two separate areas of the West Dorset coastline: Weymouth Beach and Portland Bill. I wanted to use the rocks surrounding Portland Bill to convey the idea of a war between the two elements of Earth and Water. My work will contrast to another photographer who i took inspiration in as I will not be shooting in monochrome but will also be using a graduated neutral density filter (2-8) set from around 6 to 7 in order to create an element of sublime due to the sort of mist effect that a long exposure photo has on water.

ABBOTSBURY SWANNERY

Photo Shoot 3

For this shoot I wanted to use Abbotsbury Swannery and the mute swans it houses to show movement in its frozen form. As well as the swannery I want to use a bird of prey demonstration supplied by the Wessex Bird of Prey Rescue Institute to also show the movement in a frozen way. For this shoot I will require I bright and sunny day which is often available in Abbotsbury due to it being near the coast and a short exposure to freeze the movement.

MOTIONLESS FOREST

Photo Shoot 4

for this shoot I used woods in Hampshire at dusk/sunset to contrast this shoot against the project title. I needed a still day to complete this shoot as I wanted to capture a motionless forest to show that while the idea of movement can be interesting the absence of movement is also interesting.
